There were no signs of my eyes deteriatimg. One day I woke up and my right eye was blurry. I couldn’t read anything even with my lens in. Through out the next couple of days it continues to worsen, I only could make out some colours. I didn’t call my ophthalmologist straight away, mainly because I was in denial, I kept hoping it was my eyes having a bad day and tomorrow they’ll be back to normal. Once my denial was over I didn’t Want to hear the dreaded words because then It became real. Anyway did call, about two weeks later, am emergency appointment and it’s then I found out the news I already knew was coming. My vision was gone. The usual eye pressure is between 10 - 21 mm, mine was in 40 something mm in both my eyes.
As I was pregnant with Amiyah, we could only operate on one eye before she was born. As the sight was already gone in the right eye it could never. be recovered. So we opted to try and save the rest of the sight from the left. I had two eye surgeries in one under local anesthetic, to drain the fluid and reduce the pressure. I have a inflammatory disease. Which at the time was causing a lot of issues, including problems with general anapaestic. Which is the reason for me going under local.
Like I said there was no warning or signs of glaucoma. However I did not attend my last two eye appointments. This was because at the time I was battling with other illnesses. Which caused me to be admitted to the hospital. or left me too weak to leave my.bed so I couldn’t attend and sadly this was the result.
Do you see why it’s important to regularly check your eyes. Even if you feel healthy, you never know..
