On my Instagram I asked my followers to ask me questions if they want to know more about us. One question I got which particularly stood out to me was whatโs the best thing about having low vision? I was a bit taken back at first. I thought surely thereโs nothing great about being sight impaired. Then I thought actually, it is a good question because it forces me to look on the bright side and dig deep for the positives. So I although explained on my Instagram stories, I thought Iโd explain further.
What I basically said is having low vision allows me to be my own little world without worrying about what people think or say, i donโt have to worry about the way I look or the way people think I look. Letโs face it although people say that they donโt care about what people think , personally I know I do, not enough for it to change my whole mood, but enough to make me mention it. The thing is people love to stare, sometimes for no reason and other times for many reasons although I see enough to know theyโre looking, I donโt see enough for it to bother me.
Itโs not just about people though, itโs mainly about being in my own little bubble of mental peace.
I feel like those who have clearer vision are constantly focused on so many different things. Their eyes are constantly darting from left to right, trying to figure out whatโs this, whereโs that or whose this. Not being able to see, allows my mind to be a little more silent. Iโve personally seen the difference from when I used to have both lenses in before my vision detonated till now.
When Iโm travelling to some place Iโm familiar with, earphones in my ears, cane out and Iโm lost in my own thoughts. Itโs quite beautiful actually.
Disclaimer - I never have my earphones in when Iโm crossing the road.
. There are other cool things that come with being visually impaired/blind like the concessions we are entitled to, which allows us to save all little money here and there as well.
Anyway to the person who asked me this question, thank you.
Until next time guys.
